Bright Star
A book that I want to read:
The Children's Book
A poet that I want to hear:
Autumn
The leaves are falling, falling as if from far up,
as if orchards were dying high in space.
Each leaf falls as if it were motioning "no."
And tonight the heavy earth is falling
away from all other stars in the loneliness.
We're all falling. This hand here is falling.
And look at the other one. It's in them all.
And yet there is Someone, whose hands
infinitely calm, holding up all this falling.
Rainer Maria Rilke
A Walk
My eyes already touch the sunny hill.
going far ahead of the road I have begun.
So we are grasped by what we cannot grasp;
it has inner light, even from a distance-
and charges us, even if we do not reach it,
into something else, which, hardly sensing it,
we already are; a gesture waves us on
answering our own wave...
but what we feel is the wind in our faces.
Translated by Robert Bly
Rainer Maria Rilke

I've been watching for Bright Star, too. It's in a limited number of theaters.....
I may have to wait for the DVD.
Oh, do go see "Bright Star" if you can, Cindy. It was unbelievably beautiful and the last scene is still with me two weeks later.
I have "The Children's Book" in my closet. It was an early Christmas present from my sister-in-law when I was in London last month and I can hardly wait to read it. Guess what I'll be doing the week after Christmas? :)
Oh my. I collect poems about Autumn, my favorite season, but Rilke's poem is one I have never read before. Thank you very much.

I, too, want to see Bright Star. It was, according to my sources :), at the Bijou downtown for a WEEK! Then it disappeared! If you find it, let me know and maybe we can go together!

Thank you for posting "Autumn," which I will definitely add to my favorites.
