I didn't get to do the audioblogging I was hoping to do while away. I was just too lazy to figure it out. I did want y'all to get a chance to hear the roaring creek roaring into the phone. We spent 5 days in the Smoky Mountains. It was a little too hot for too much hiking but we drove around and got out sometimes.
We spent some quality time discussing the introduction to I'll Take My Stand. This book is going to take us a long....time to get through, but reading it in the Smoky Mountains was perfect. The whole history of the area, the national park, the moving people off of their lands, the vacationing Americans, the vanishing southern traditions....perfect for contemplation.
The Bling came in handy, too. It was easy to find in any parking lot. The only real worry was that some TN sheriff might give us a ticket on account of the color. We even did the tourist thing and bought a few Dixie Outfitters t-shirts from an Arab? We embarrassed ourselves at a dinner show where my dh refused to stand during a flag raising because they were singing The Battle Hymn of the Republic. That man needs a lesson in humoring Yahoos, I guess.
My parents seemed to survive their week with the children. We give them a big, public thank-you for that bit of babysitting. They did all kinds of fun, expensive things with the children and the house was even cleaner than when we left.
All in all it was a lot of fun except that Tim kept saying, "I wish the kids were here."
